Songs of the Hearth

By Rose Ure Mezu

Obinna

Beloved son, My Beloved.

Beloved ages before you were born.

Doubly, triply loved when at last beheld.

Your presence -- a source of renewed delight

where are you my Obinna?

Your life, like a meteor,

flashed by so briefly, so rapidly.

I think of all you were and I weep.

The pattering of your little feet

unannounced through the door.

The trusting warmth of your little hand

clasped in mine,

and the loving, hesitant, and learning cry

of "Nanny! Nanny!" for Mummy.

My Obinna, I dream of you and I weep!
