Dear Mr. Christian:
I received your letter and am glad to know that you will work with us on the project.
Enclosed is a prospectus of the book, 'The Portrait of the Negro as
America," which we have under way.
We should like to know if you have available information on any of the following list of subjects:
1. Tribal origins--slaves in Louisiana.
2. Longshoremen and typical work.
3. Convent Sisters.
4. Colored actress--Cecilly, New Orleans Theatre, 1837.
5. Folk songs--street cries
6. Mardi Gras picture
7. Cases of injustice from earliest time to present.
8. Catholic schools (excluding Xavier)
9. Battle of New Orleans
10. Confederate Regiment of Creoles.
11. Bras Coupe' (character in Cable's GRANDISSIMES,
supposed to be a historical figure.)
12. Marie Laveau
Please let me know as soon as possible, how much of this material you have on hand and how much of it you will be able
to get. We want you to send us striking biographical facts and incidents supported by authentic references. From these we will
do sketches for the book.
